When it comes to delicious, top-tier Greek and Mediterranean seafood, look no further than The Black Olive in Baltimore, Maryland. With our expert chefs and courteous waitstaff, we offer a dining experience with a great atmosphere and unforgettable meals. Have you taken a look at our menu but are unsure where to start? Here are the five most popular dishes at our restaurant.

1.Melitzanasalata

Melitzanasalata is a popular Greek spread, inspired partly by a similar spread you can find through the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Our recipe has been passed down through one family for generations. Lucky for us, that family also owns the restaurant! Melitzanasalata is made a few different ways, but we make ours with fresh eggplant, garlic, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil.

All this results in what is essentially a tasty Greek eggplant dip. We provide all the toasted bread you need for dipping. This dish is perfect for sharing, though we understand if you decide to take this one on by yourself. Once you start, it's hard to stop.

2. Kakavia

The name Kakavia comes from a cooking pot used by ancient Ionian fisherman, which should give you an idea of how old this timeless dish is. Kakavia is an elaborate Greek fisherman's soup that's been made for centuries, traditionally with the fish that the fisherman catches that are too small to eat on their own.

Our Kakavia is made with lobster, shrimp, mussels, scampi, clams, and fish, and you'll be able to taste every one. This hearty stew makes for the perfect lunch or supper when you're out on the town. It's flavorful and filling but doesn't have the grease or heaviness that you'll get from similarly dense meals at other restaurants.

3. Jumbo Lump Crab Cake

The appeal is in the name. Our generous portion of crab cake, made from the freshest crabmeat, is served nestled on baby leaf greens with homemade mayonnaise. Warning, once you order this dish, it might be tough to stop ordering it every time you come in. We always stay fully stocked with this crowd favorite.

Many of our guests say they like pairing this dish with white wine, and we can't blame them. Come see what all the buzz is about.

4. Mediterranean Sea Bass

As a staple of our lunch a la carte menu, enjoying our Mediterranean sea bass is the perfect way to feel full and energized for the rest of your day. We grill our bass, known as Lavraki, Bronzini, or Loup de Mare, to perfection. The shrimp fed on by the bass comes through in the taste, which you can enjoy through the fish's slightly flakey, but firm texture.

5. Baklava

What's the perfect way to finish any of our meals? With one of our delicious desserts of course! While we offer a variety of Greek desserts, none are more popular than our rich, decadent baklava.

Consisting of several layers of our homemade filo dough, our baklava contains nuts and generous amounts of syrup that you won't be able to get enough of. There's a reason baklava is made throughout the Middle East, Europe, and the Mediterranean. Come see for yourself!
